They are hiding all around us.
Some are tiny, almost impossible to see. Others are enormous, bigger than imaginable. They are camouflaged on the side of skyscrapers and hiding in small scratches on park benches.
And they are abundant.
The Many is a participative-augmented reality experience designed to better-engage children with city environments. Moving with a paper map, the landscape becomes increasingly alive as
participants (5-12 years of age) search for being-like forms (called Many) in the immediate surroundings. At each Many location they use their adult’s device to unlock animated AR collections of different personas drawn by children.
Adding their own drawing they can then experience it amongst 100’s of other interpretations. Once 15 Many have been found and the child audience has experienced the finale, they are ‘trained in seeing’ and can continue to use the web-app to search and photograph Many wherever they go.
Moving through the city, the landscape becomes increasingly alive. Child players make and experience their drawings as a kind of virtual graffiti - a collective take-over that preferences children's ways of moving, seeing and being in public spaces.
The MNY is launched at Melbourne Fringe Festival and Melbourne International Games Week in October 2025.
